I completed my honours and Ph.D studies in the department of Biochemistry at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia under the supervision of Prof. Mike Ryan. My Ph.D studies included characterisation of two novel mitochondrial fission proteins MiD49/MiD51 which recruit the fission mediator Drp1 to facilitate division of mitochondria. I then moved to London to undertake post-doctorial research at University College London, under the supervision of Profs. Michael Duchen and Tony Schapira. During this time my research involved elucidating links between Gaucher and Parkinson’s diseases using a neuronopathic model of Gaucher disease. I have now returned to Melbourne as a post-doctoral research associate at The La Trobe Institute for Molecular Sciences, again working on factors that govern mitochondrial division.
